Timetable change
Is the Reblaus Express on the siding?
The "Reblaus Express" operated by Niederösterreich-Bahnen stands for enjoyment and good humor. However, the timetable of the popular tourist attraction is to be thinned out.
The historic train connects Retz with Drosendorf during the summer season on a route of 40 kilometers. Last year saw a record number of passengers, but this year only two instead of three pairs of trains will be running on operating days from May 1st.
This is incomprehensible to the ten mayors of the neighboring communities and many other citizens. "This step is unacceptable for the region. NÖVOG justified this with changes to ÖBB's timetables at the Retz transfer station," they say. ÖBB (which is responsible for the connection) and Niederösterreich-Bahnen (NÖVOG) are now shifting responsibility back and forth - like on the turntable of a train shed. For many affected excursionists, local politicians and tourism experts, this is not a satisfactory solution. They hope that the controversial timetable will be reviewed.
They have also worked with experts to draw up an alternative timetable that makes three train journeys possible. The region is now hoping for a positive decision from Transport Minister Eleonore Gewessler (Greens) and Transport Minister Udo Landbauer (FPÖ).
