St. Johann im Pongau

A tree uprooted by strong gusts of wind on an embankment fell onto a building at the Plankenau power plant in St. Johann im Pongau on Thursday.
The meter-high fallen tree missed the power lines of the power plant by just a few meters. The conifer nevertheless caused damage to the federal building. The fence of the property was damaged, as was an outbuilding of the power plant on which the tree came to rest.
The conifer was secured by crane by the St. Johann im Pongau volunteer fire department, cut down and then removed.
The Plankenau power station has been in operation since 1922 and uses the water of the Großarler Ache along the Liechtensteinklamm gorge as a second barrage. It generates around 56.7 million kWh of electrical energy per year, supplying around 16,200 households with clean electricity.
