Free courses
“Swimming campaign” for more safety in the pool
More and more children can't swim - and that poses deadly dangers. Free courses are intended to remedy this shortcoming. Initially 1000 places are planned.
"Every child in Lower Austria should learn to swim!" This is the goal set by Sports Minister Udo Landbauer. For good reason: drowning is the second most common cause of fatal childhood accidents. "The number of non-swimmers is worrying," says Landbauer.
Across Austria, more than 148,000 young people between the ages of five and 19 are affected. Together with Birigt Fürnkranz-Maglock, President of the Lower Austrian Swimming Association, and Markus Schimböck, President of the Lower Austrian Water Rescue Service, the FPÖ Provincial Vice-President is therefore launching the "Swimming Kids" campaign. Free swimming courses are offered for children aged five to ten. In the pilot phase, 1000 places are planned, with the first courses starting at the end of the month in St. Pölten, Wiener Neustadt, Krems, Baden, Tulln and Südstadt.
