Ski resorts breathe a sigh of relief
Genoa low brings 40 centimetres of fresh snow to the Alps
During the night, up to 40 centimetres of fresh snow fell in the Alps above 700 meters. The precipitation is expected to subside in the night to Thursday. However, the coming days should be somewhat milder again.
The ski resorts in the Alps can breathe a sigh of relief. After a rather meagre snow yield in recent weeks, an air mass boundary between Scandinavian low Jasper and a small low over the Gulf of Genoa is bringing plenty of fresh snow to the Alps.
In Hochkrimml in the Austrian district of Zell am See, 30 to 40 centimetres of fresh snow fell in places overnight on Wednesday. The snowfall is expected to gradually subside during the night to Friday. Whether the snow will last longer remains to be seen as temperatures rise again in the coming days.
