Pensioner died after car accident in the Lammertal valley

On Monday afternoon, an 80-year-old Bavarian man caused an accident in his car for unknown reasons. He died in Salzburg University Hospital as a result of his serious injuries.

The 80-year-old pensioner from the district of Berchtesgadener Land was driving from Golling on the Lammertal road towards Abtenau. His 81-year-old wife was sitting next to him.

At the so-called "Kuchlbach junction", the vehicle crossed to the other side of the road - the reason is as yet unknown. It drove over a traffic island and later crashed into a tree.

Both occupants were trapped, had to be freed using hydraulic rescue equipment and flown by rescue helicopter to Salzburg and the Kardinal Schwarzenberg Hospital. The Bavarian finally succumbed to his injuries at Salzburg University Hospital on Thursday.
