Initiative fails
Asylum seeker activities to be expanded
A draft from the Ministry of the Interior provides for an expansion of the non-profit field of activity for asylum seekers. However, a "work obligation" is not planned.
According to the paper, which is available to the APA, in future, people can also work in basic care if organizations are only under the decisive influence of a local authority or a municipal association or if they are NGOs.
Until now, such use was only possible if it took place within the direct sphere of influence of the federal states and municipalities. The possible uses are non-profit activities, such as lawn care.
The Ministry of the Interior now also mentions work in retirement homes, libraries, sports facilities and cemeteries as examples. Homeless facilities and workshops for the disabled are also listed.
There is no provision for compulsory work, as was recently demanded in Upper Austria. Everything is based on a voluntary basis.
