Innerhofer is now only coached virtually
Trail runner Hans-Peter Innerhofer relies on a new coach. However, the coach's instructions only come via cell phone. The training has had an effect, as the man from Pinzgau feels he is in the form of his life ahead of an exciting year.
The winter break for mountain skier Hans-Peter Innerhofer is long. Time enough to look for a new coach. The man from Pinzgau and his twin brother Manuel (both from LC Oberpinzgau) have hired the German Lars Schweizer. "He trains several professionals from Germany and Switzerland - a top man," says Hans-Peter.
Training plans via app
"We often had problems on longer routes," admits "HP". The trail running trainer is supposed to make us forget this. But Schweizer is not a traditional trainer who motivates and whips up the athletes on site. The instructions only come by phone. "We receive the training plans via an app. And sometimes we write or phone him," explains Innerhofer. The coach sees the athlete's data and values via the app and then gives individual instructions.
The training, which seems unusual at first glance, is having an effect after the first few weeks: "I'm currently in better shape than ever before!" Also because the Pinzgauer is investing more time. "I'm currently putting in 20 hours a week," explains the forestry worker, who balances his job and sport well.
Chasing medals in the summer
The 28-year-old wants to maintain his top form for as long as possible. Because this year there are some major events coming up where the Pinzgau native wants to shine. At the beginning of April, he will compete in the longest race of his career in a 69-kilometer race. At the end of May, the trail runner will be hunting for medals at the European Mountain Running Championships in Annecy (Fra). There, he is also hoping for his brother Manuel, who is currently having problems with his Achilles tendon.
