Gas leak: Vorarlberg hotel evacuated
On Friday morning, refrigerant leaked from a hotel in Montafon (Vorarlberg). Six people had to go to hospital.
Refrigerant suddenly escaped from a hotel in the municipality of Tschagguns on Friday morning. This caused smoke to form. The emergency services were alerted immediately and six people had to be taken to hospital as a precaution.
The firefighters discovered that there had been a leak in a copper pipe in one of the refrigeration machines. This caused around 4.5 kilograms of coolant to escape. When the fire alarm system went off, six employees went into the basement to investigate the situation. In doing so, they came into contact with the leaking coolant. They were eventually taken to hospital for a health check.
The 150 or so hotel guests did not have to be evacuated and the hotel continued to operate unhindered. The leak was repaired by a refrigeration technician from the company responsible.
