City doesn’t clean up at the bathing lake at the weekend

Hundreds of Salzburg residents enjoyed Sunday at the Lieferinger Badesee. The amount of garbage was correspondingly high. But the city did not provide any staff to clear up the garbage at the weekend.

The warm days of the first half of April were forecast. They attracted hundreds of Salzburgers to "their" bathing pond. The first daredevils opened the bathing season and already did extensive laps through the three-meter-deep water.

However, bathers were disturbed by the amount of garbage. Right at the entrance near the main parking lot on Schmiedingerstraße, there was a row of large open sacks full of garbage. It was even uglier around the locations of the garbage bins on the lake shore.

The Salzachsee swimming area is managed by the City of Salzburg.

They were overflowing with rubbish. Drinks bottles and disposable packaging were strewn across the lawn around the bins. The bathing buffet was already open and attracted many customers. As a result, a lot of waste accumulated.

"We start on May 1st"
Has the city of Salzburg not prepared for the predicted summery days? When asked by Krone, a responsible person said: "The season hasn't opened yet. We start on May 1st."

Providing a refuse collection service for Saturdays or Sundays before May 1st is not an option. "We don't have the staff for such a weekend shift," says the municipal company. In addition, guests could dispose of waste in garbage bins in the parking lot - a long way away from the sunbathing and sports fields.

Drinking fountains already running, toilets in operation 
Apart from the garbage problem, the bathing complex is ready for the summer. The municipal authorities have cleaned the paths, put the fountains and toilets into operation and mowed the lawn.
