Caught in a trap

“Bank employee” conned victim out of 10,000 euros

Brazen scam in the district of St. Veit an der Glan: a victim fell into a criminal's trap and lost a small fortune. 

Surprised at being contacted by a supposed employee of her bank, the 61-year-old woman gullibly fell into the fraudster's trap. And in a particularly brazen manner: The alleged employee of the financial institution claimed that several thousand euros had been illegally debited from the victim's current account.

Victim transferred money to fraudster account
Naturally shocked by her loss, the woman followed the instructions of the alleged banker. After all, it wasn't that bad - she just had to go into her bank app and confirm the return transfer. Which she subsequently did. Without realizing that she was transferring more than 10,000 euros from her account to that of the fraudster.
