Stopped on the A2
Commuted across the border: Duo looted drugstores
Caught on one of their looting sprees: the police literally pulled two serial thieves out of circulation on the southern highway, who are said to have regularly entered Carinthia and looted drugstores.
The officers had the right nose when they stopped the rental car of the two Romanians in the Sternberg Süd parking lot: Apart from the fact that one of the men (41) was a wanted man, the police officers discovered a mountain of perfume and toiletries in the car - as well as items that could be used to defeat anti-theft devices.
And it didn't take long for the investigators to get confirmation: As it turned out, the seized products had been stolen shortly before from a drugstore in the Atrio shopping center and from the branch of another store in Villach. The total value of the loot: 855 euros. The handcuffs clicked for the two Romanians.
Loot sent home
As it turned out during questioning, this was not the first theft by the suspicious duo: the men admitted to regularly crossing the border from Italy to Carinthia since mid-February to carry out their criminal activities in stores and drugstores. According to their own statements, the Romanians always sent the loot back to their home country by bus immediately after the robberies. The suspected serial offenders were sent to Klagenfurt prison.
