Accidents on ski slopes cause three serious injuries

The start of the semester break in some Austrian and German federal states is clearly making itself felt on Tyrol's ski slopes. In addition to the drama in Ischgl, where a Pole (49) was killed in an accident, there were also three accidents in the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser in Kitzbühel. The result: three seriously injured.

The first accident occurred at 9.50 am. A local man (49) was skiing downhill with his skis on the Zinsberg on the Holzalm run number 6a near the edge of the piste. "Suddenly, a 72-year-old local woman skiing in front of him crossed the lane with her skis by making a right turn," according to the police. The 49-year-old was no longer able to swerve out of the way, resulting in a collision. The man was seriously injured and had to be flown by helicopter to Kufstein Hospital. The 72-year-old woman remained uninjured.

The second accident occurred at 10.30 am. A Dutchman (22) skied over the skis of a local woman (59) on the Foisching downhill run number 25c. "The woman fell and was seriously injured." She was taken to Kufstein Hospital and admitted as an inpatient. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old remained uninjured.

Overlooking the edge of the terrain
The third accident occurred just 15 minutes later. A German (28) was skiing down Joch run number 6 towards the valley. "Due to an edge of the terrain that he had overlooked, he was slightly lifted out." He was then unable to avoid a collision with a German skier (62) and crashed into her back. The woman was seriously injured. She was flown by helicopter to Kufstein Hospital. The German was only slightly injured.
