West Wien's handball team will fight for a place in the Cup Final Four against Linz/Neue Heimat on Wednesday. Coach Roland Marouschek sees a good chance of advancement for his young squad in Stadthalle B. "We will give it everything we've got."

Last year, the team suffered a bitter semi-final defeat to Hard at the home tournament before the championship fairytale - and now the "new" West Wien also wants to reach the final four of the ÖHB Cup.

The Greens face Linz/Neue Heimat in Stadthalle B on Wednesday (20:15), who were mediocre in the "other" 2nd Division North/West in the basic round. "You can't underestimate this opponent, they're more than just a junior team," said coach Roland Marouschek. "But we have a good chance and will give it everything we've got." In order to advance to the final four - unlike their long-standing HLA rivals Fivers. "That would be a huge boost for my young team and the icing on the cake of a great season so far. Even if you have to say that we're benefiting a little from the draw." West Vienna's young squad around the U18 talents Gabriel Kofler, Clemens Möstl and Co. have not yet had to face an HLA representative.

But the Greens themselves could return to the top flight. The team is currently leading the 2nd division South/East - it was decided internally that they would go up with the young guard if they won the championship. However, participation in the Cup final event on April 19/20 with hosts Schwaz, Hard and Graz would have "consequences". Marouschek: "Our supposed promotion duel in Atzgersdorf would be on that very weekend. That would then be postponed to during the week - not ideal."

Crowdfunding is also helping the Greens financially. Around 22,000 euros have been raised so far. "Unbelievable! And an amazing gesture. Even ex-players and parents have donated."
