Today, the people of Salzburg will decide whether Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ) or Kay-Michael Dankl (KPÖ Plus) will become the new mayor.

When the polling stations for the mayoral run-off election close this afternoon, the people of Salzburg will be electing only their third directly elected mayor. Direct mayoral elections have been held in Salzburg since 1999. The first time around, the city changed color. Heinz Schaden reclaimed the city's top seat from the ÖVP.
