Less noise, fewer accidents: That is the goal that Lustenau wants to achieve with the speed limit on the roads.

Following in the footsteps of the provincial capital of Bregenz, the market town of Lustenau in Vorarlberg is now also introducing a 30 km/h speed limit "with immediate effect" throughout the entire municipal area. Exceptions to this are the provincial roads and central development axes, as Mayor Kurt Fischer (ÖVP) announced. The new speed limits are intended to improve the quality of life, prevent "slow traffic" and improve safety for all road users, he said.

With over 24,000 inhabitants, Lustenau is the most populous market town in Austria and, as a border town with Switzerland, is extremely congested. The speed limit has also had a positive effect on noise emissions, said Fischer. However, the municipality is not yet satisfied. "We will continue to insist on our demand for a speed reduction on provincial roads," emphasized the mayor. The gradual implementation of the "target image for provincial roads" is intended to "significantly improve safety and quality of life on roads with heavy traffic".
