World Cup ticket secured
Huge jubilation for ÖSV lady Magdalena Egger!
What a finish for Magdalena Egger! With her second place in the European Cup Super-G in Kvitfjell, Norway, the Vorarlberg native secured her World Cup ticket for next season at the very last minute.
In yesterday's downhill at the European Cup final in Kvitfjell, Norway, there was still a lot going against Magdalena Egger. The skier from Lech was just four hundredths of a second short of victory, narrowly missing out on the podium in the discipline classification - which means a permanent place in the Downhill World Cup next season.
And today in the final super-G in Kvitfjell, before which Egger was still 28 points off the podium in the discipline classification, Egger also had to tremble. Originally scheduled for 9.30 a.m., it was first postponed to 10 a.m. because the course had to be salted. Then extended to 10.30.
When the race finally got underway, Egger with bib number eight managed a tremendous run, the ÖSV lady finished in second place, 0.46 seconds behind the winner Tifany Roux (Fra). In doing so, she pushed the Italian Vicky Bernardy (6th) off the podium in the discipline classification and secured her Super G World Cup ticket for the new season at the very last minute. "I fought to the end and it paid off," said a delighted Egger, "I'm super happy. It didn't quite work out yesterday, but today the good things came back."
Emily Schöpf finished behind France's Karen Clement in Kvitfjell, taking second place in the overall European Cup standings.
